| | Home | OUR first Corner House gig of 2010, with the Alyn Cosker Quartet, was a great success, both musically and in terms of the audience size (although we'd always be happy to see more!). It was especially great to see so many of the people who were friends of our late Secretary, Chris Yates, and whose support for Jazz North East over the years has been a real encouragement. Thanks to you all.
Nothing else at the Corner House for a while, but there's an exciting programme of gigs at some of the other venues which we use, starting on 21st February when, as part of our commitment to bringing local musicians to a wider audience, we are collaborating with fellow promoter Splinter to present the Mark Williams Trio at the Bridge Hotel. Mark (pictured) is part of the astonishing array of young jazz musicians who have emerged on the local scene over the past three or four years, and we have every intention of continuing to support them.
There are a host of other great gigs lined up between now and June, all of them detailed in the 'Events' section of this website, and all of them part of the final programme put together by Chris Yates. Their quality and diversity is a tribute to his vision for jazz on Tyneside, and it would be great to see that vision recognised by audiences continuing to turn out in force. |
